Julie is a Clinical Psychologist who completed her Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) and Master of Clinical Psychology at Griffith University, Gold Coast. She has worked with children, adolescents, adults and families in both public health and private practice setting for over 10 years.
Julie’s main area of interest is working with children aged 0-12 years and their families and she has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of common psychological and behavioural problems. She works with children with a range of difficulties including anxiety, trauma, depression, bullying, self-esteem issues, family conflict, behaviour management, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Julie believes that Emotion Focused strategies are a key component of behaviour change in all children. She works to understand each individual child and family and find the right balance of emotional and behavioural strategies for their unique situation.
She understands that for the best outcomes working with the child is only part of the picture. She provides support to parents and carers, helping them help their children practice the emotion and behaviour management strategies they learn in session at home.
Using a Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) framework Julie utilises a range of strategies depending on the needs of the family. These may include cognitive restructuring (helpful/unhelpful thinking), relaxation strategies, the Zones of Regulation and Social Thinking strategies. Helping parents recognise age appropriate behaviours, skills and difficulties; providing them with support to implement a consistent plan; and giving them skills to cope with their children’s ‘big feelings’ are an important part of Julie’s approach.
She is an APS Accredited Autism Provider and is trained in both Triple P Parenting and 1-2-3 Magic behaviour management programs. Julie has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of common psychological and behavioural problems. She is able to undertake Cognitive/Learning Assessments (WISC-V and WIAT-III) and Autism Assessments (ADOS).
When not working Julie is a mum shuffling her daughter between school commitments and after school activities. When she has time she loves to read and is working on her drawing skills.
