Children
Children go through a lot. So do the people who love them.
When a child is struggling, it affects the whole family. You might be watching your child withdraw, melt down, refuse school, or seem persistently anxious, and feel at a loss for what to do next. You have already tried things. Some have helped a little. None have resolved it.
That is often when families come to us.
At Living Well Psychology & Support, our psychologists work with children, young people, and their families across our clinics in Robina on the Gold Coast and Tweed Heads in northern New South Wales. Telehealth is also available for families who cannot get to us in person.
How We Work With Families
Before your child comes in, we spend time with you, the parent.
We want to understand what you are seeing at home, how long it has been going on, what you have already tried, and what matters most to your family. We also want to understand your child as a whole person, not just the presenting difficulty. Their temperament, strengths, what is happening at school, and how the family is managing.
The more clearly we understand the picture, the better placed we are to help.
Where it would be useful, we also connect with your child’s school. This might mean a phone conversation with a teacher, attending a school meeting, or observing your child in the classroom. Children can look and behave very differently across settings, and working across both home and school often makes a real difference.
Sessions may involve your child, parent coaching, or both. We will be clear about what we recommend and why.
